Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned Work cooperatively, harmoniously and productively with drivers, transportation supervisor, administrative staff, building principals and the public Present positive image as a representative of school district Maintain student order at all times to ensure adherence to safety rules Observe all Board of Education policies and regulations and comply with all School District Work rules Must have the ability to work with handicapped students of all classifications Ability to lift and move students as required Assist bus driver in student management while enroute; loading and unloading students at school building, including wheelchairs Regular and predictable attendance

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be eligible to work in the United States

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time. The employee is required to occasionally climb up and down bus steps and may be required to climb in and out of the Rear Emergency Door. The employee will assist in moving students on and off the bus and move student equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. The employee will frequently communicate with students and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Employee must pass all District pre-employment requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff, and occasionally with the public. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students and staff.

EVALUATION:

Job performance is evaluated in accordance with District guidelines by the Transportation Supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Length of the workday and the number of workdays is based on the MEA/Local Four collective bargaining agreement.
