Job Summary The Substation Journeyman p erforms highly skilled, journeyman-level electrical work in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electric substations, and other related electrical and mechanical equipment associated with high voltage electric substations. This role supports the construction of new Substations as well as modifications, and upgrades of existing Substations for Electrical Utility Companies. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following: Ground grids and steel erection Buswork (High and Low Voltage) Airbreak / Hookstick Switches Control Cable Terminations (High / Low Voltage) Control Buildings Conduit and duck banks Capacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kv Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers Circuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switches During installation and or maintenance, trouble shoot and correct malfunctions of all substation equipment. Safe operation of all company and related construction equipment used for substation, transmission, and distribution line construction. Follow company and industry safety protocols within the construction of substations. Any other tasks as directed. Responsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions Frequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others. Understands and complies with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. Other duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Obtain and maintain a valid State Class C driver’s license. Must have previous substation experience Must be willing to travel around Central US. Preferred Qualifications OSHA 10. 4+ years of substation experience Physical Demands and Work Environment The job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
