Evidence & Inventory Specialist

The Evidence & Inventory Management Unit of the Arlington County Police Department is looking for an Evidence & Inventory Specialist to perform a variety of technical and administrative duties applicable to a police operations environment such as inventory and management, and distribution and control functions.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include:

• Securing and managing evidence and safe keeping property entrusted to the Department;
• Preparing and facilitating the transport of evidence for laboratory analysis;
• Assisting the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and testifying about evidence in court proceedings;
• Providing training to Officers pertaining to the correct handling, packaging and classification of property coming into their possession;
• Utilizing the departments computerized Records Management system to identify proper storage space for evidence and property safe keeping;
• Accepting and analyzing Court Orders for proper documentation for the release, disposition or retention of property being held; and
• Receiving, controlling and providing security for large amounts of US Currency and an assortment drugs and drug paraphernalia of varying Classes and Schedules.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Understanding of law enforcement policies and procedures;
• Familiarity with the rules of collection, processing, receipt, storage, chain of custody and other enforcement of laws, rules;
• Reading comprehension to read technical materials;
• Writing skills to compose letters or narrative reports;
• Interpersonal skills to persuade and manage others; and
• Problem solving skills to gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school Diploma or vocational school, a GED certificate, or the equivalent; and
• Some experience in office, inventory, and/or records management.

Substitution(s): Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.

Desirable Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

• Working with a computerized inventory/supply system;
• Utilizing computer software such as PRISM;
• Using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Access; and/or
• Using an automated financial system such as Service Now or other inventory management software

Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-hire background check will be conducted on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Driver’s License: Applicants for the position must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence, or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary work site. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

Work hours: 06:00 / 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 / 3:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday.


Physical Requirement: Some work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Employee Preferences Inventory (EPI): To be considered for this position, applicants must achieve a passing score on the online Employee Preferences Inventory (EPI) Assessment. Instructions will be sent to those applicants that do not have a valid score the day after the deadline of the recruitment. Please note the following:

• Scores are valid for one calendar year.
• You cannot retake the assessment until one year has passed since your last attempt.
• If you have completed the EPI within the past year, you do not need to retake it.
• If you have not taken the EPI during the past year, you will receive an email with instructions and a deadline for completing the assessment.
• Failure to complete the EPI by the deadline provided to you in email will disqualify you from this recruitment process.
