Founded in Santa Barbara in 2003, The Closet Trading Co. is a contemporary and luxury fashion resale boutique built on the belief that great style should be accessible, curated, and sustainable.

What began as a single boutique has grown into a multi-location company dedicated to extending the life of fashion through thoughtfully curated consignment, personalized service, and an exceptional shopping experience.

We’re looking for an experienced, motivated Retail Store Manager to lead our Santa Barbara location and help us continue growing!

The Opportunity

As Store Manager, you’ll be responsible for the overall success of your boutique, from developing a high-performing team to driving sales, maintaining exceptional merchandising standards, and creating an environment where clients love to shop.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

* Recruit, train, coach, and develop a high-performing retail team.

* Establish clear expectations and provide consistent performance feedback.

* Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative store culture.

* Manage employee scheduling, attendance, and performance.

Sales & Business Performance

* Drive store sales and achieve established performance goals.

* Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities for improvement.

* Motivate the team to deliver exceptional customer service and sales results.

* Manage labor hours and operational efficiency.

Store Operations & Merchandising

* Oversee daily boutique operations, ensuring consistency with company standards.

* Maintain an organized, visually appealing, and well-merchandised sales floor.

* Ensure merchandise is processed, presented, and maintained efficiently.

* Uphold company policies, procedures, and operational expectations.

Client Experience

* Build lasting relationships with clients and consignors.

* Lead by example in delivering personalized, welcoming service.

* Resolve client concerns professionally and thoughtfully.

* Create a shopping experience that encourages repeat visits and customer loyalty.

Qualifications

Required:

* Minimum 2 years of retail leadership or supervisory experience.

* Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

* Experience coaching employees and managing daily retail operations.

* Understanding of sales goals, performance metrics, and customer service.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as business needs require.

Preferred:

* Previous Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager experience.

* Background in fashion, specialty retail, or boutique management.

* Experience with visual merchandising, inventory management, and retail KPIs.

* Familiarity with resale or consignment.

Previous consignment experience is not required. We’re happy to train the right leader on our unique business model!

Compensation & Benefits

Total Earning Potential: $25–$35/hour, including performance-based commission.

Compensation consists of a base hourly wage plus opportunities to earn additional income through established sales incentives. Actual earnings depend on individual qualifications and sales performance.

Additional Information

Location: 714 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Job Type: Full-time, in-person, Hourly/ non-exempt

Schedule: Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays as needed.

The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
