Job Summary

The Registered Nurse utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation provides care to patients of all ages and developmental stages experiencing changes in their normal health processes. This role emphasizes critical thinking, teamwork, effective communication, and the application of nursing knowledge and skills. Responsibilities include completing assigned duties in compliance with policies and procedures while ensuring quality patient care and satisfaction.

Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Director of Nursing.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas, or a compact license with the State of Texas
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting

Essential Job Functions

• Deliver patient-focused nursing care to acutely ill or injured patients; apply the nursing process while ensuring accurate documentation of treatments.
• Provide holistic, compassionate care that addresses both clinical and emotional needs of patients.
• Triages and prioritizes patient care based on acuity levels and available resources.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate effective patient care.
• Perform nursing duties within scope of practice, adhering to applicable policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Follow established safety protocols and laboratory procedures, including processing specimens accurately.
• Administer basic respiratory services such as capnography, pulse oximetry, and supplemental oxygen treatments.
• Exhibit critical thinking skills, decisiveness, and the ability to work independently.
• Maintain composure in stressful or emergency situations and adapt to changes effectively.
• Facilitate patient transfers and discharges as required.
• Encourage a positive, solution-focused environment and participate in the development of departmental procedures.
• Engage in unit meetings and assist in sharing information among team members.
• Involved in staff assessments and evaluations, supporting staff development through training and education.
• Complete additional duties as assigned and participate in ongoing professional development.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of current federal and state regulations applicable to freestanding emergency centers and the nursing profession. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities effectively.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this position include:

• Regularly required to hear and speak
• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, and lift/move objects over 10 lbs.
• Occasionally required to lift/move objects up to 25 lbs., climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
