Laboratory Consultant

Serves as technical consultant and direct supervisor of laboratory personnel and manages the performance of all laboratory testing. Develops and maintains policies, standards and quality control practices and oversees lab safety and maintenance. Serves as a resource medical technologist in assigned section and has the responsibility/authority to assure that the laboratory meets all accreditation requirements and applicable OSHA standards.

Oversees all laboratory testing and coordinates all point of care testing (POCT). Reviews and evaluates the validity and accuracy of test results. Functions as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist when needed. Identifies education and competency needs and conducts laboratory personnel training programs on instrumentation, technology and procedure as needed. Establishes the laboratory’s test performance characteristics, including precision, accuracy, reference ranges and reportable ranges. Evaluates new and evolving developments in laboratory instrumentation, procedures, reagents and automation for possible implementation. Acts as a liaison to other departments of the medical center for the appropriate laboratory specialty. Is responsible for the department meeting all regulatory requirements. Coordinates equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration program to ensure proper working order. Oversees quality control and ensures compliance with rules, regulations and accreditation requirements of regulatory agencies.
