Assistant Stylist

Overview Assistant Stylist engaging with guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. This temporary role prepares talent for a full stylist position, focusing on performance, guest service, and adherence to operating procedures. The assistant is mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist during the first three months, and by months four to six begins servicing guests independently while continuing to develop technical skills. Responsibilities Performance Deliver exceptional guest service and support the store’s sales and service goals for retail, services, guest loyalty, and shrink. Assist the mentor stylist in meeting sales and productivity targets for hair services and haircare products. Provide add‑on recommendations during consultations. Execute shampoo and treatment processes, blowouts, styling, and global and retouch color applications. Assist with foils, cleaning/sanitation, organizing duties, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations. Perform full hair services after month three, including design, cutting, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing where applicable. Demonstrate products to guests to drive sales and enhance the service experience. Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an outstanding guest experience. Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services and share that knowledge with guests. Maintain prompt, regular attendance. People Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate recommendations. Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, in a timely and efficient manner under mentorship. Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team for a comprehensive store experience. Build professional peer and brand partner relationships to deliver exceptional guest service. Explain the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to salon and sales‑floor guests. Process Maintain knowledge and compliance with Ulta Beauty policy, procedures, and standards. Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services, including state board guidelines. Adhere to established service protocols to ensure a consistent guest experience. Use appropriate booking and clientele systems for returning guests and events. Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness. Maintain cleanliness of salon, sales floor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any other assigned area. Attend mandatory training and meetings to enable continuous professional development. Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code. Protect company assets by following loss‑prevention best practices. Execute other operational tasks as directed. Job Qualifications Education Cosmetology license. Skills Basic understanding of latest salon techniques for hair cutting, color, lightening, styling, texture, treatments, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable). Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals required for technical work. Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair‑care and makeup products. Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and grow a clientele. Special Position Requirements Work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Working Conditions Frequent mobility during shift. Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting. Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift. Ability to stand for long periods of time during shift. Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift. Frequent use of a computer, telephone devices, and related office and cosmetology supplies. Compensation & Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $16.80 per hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including relevant education, certifications, experience, level, shift, location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by law and tips paid by guests. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
