Irwin, CA Job Type: Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Summary: Check Defense is a fast-growing federal contractor seeking a qualified and experienced professional Live Fire – Electronics Technician III to support military training by ensuring training systems, devices, and subsystems are operational, maintained, and ready for use. This position requires technical expertise in system operations, maintenance, and database management and the ability to provide hands‑on support and training to operators and visitors. Duties And Responsibilities Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, sustain, maintain, replace, repair, modify, and install various electronic equipment and related devices for the live fire targets. Install and remove live fire targets to meet SAR objectives. Manage, transport, install, and load pyrotechnic launchers associated with the live fire targets. Technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, restoring equipment to its normal operation, and applying skills in repairing equipment, evaluating performance, and reliability once repairs are made. Use oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, function generators, power supplies, and various hand tools. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, troubleshoot, and repair equipment as necessary. Perform electrical and mechanical adjustments, remove and replace failed components, and make repairs on equipment. Perform functional testing consisting of operational and diagnostic checks, scheduled preventive maintenance, unscheduled (corrective) maintenance, and repair, including troubleshooting, replacement of faulty parts, and system realignment. Conduct fault isolation using a variety of specialized test equipment, complex electronic schematics, and diagrams. Maintain TADSS and GFP in Fully Mission Capable (FMC) condition to meet the CMT and CPF requirements for each device and location. Maintain items under warranty. IAW the terms of the warranty and identify them by part number, serial number, and location in the ISTS. Capture Unique Item Information (UII) or other 2‑Dimensional (2D) standard barcode information at the time and location of work performance. Configure, initialize, and perform function check of TADSS, ensure component systems are interoperating IAW technical specifications, and verify the function and operation of a device via TADSS operator and maintenance technical manuals. Track and analyze TADSS components, parts consumption, maintenance trends, maintenance labor cost drivers for life‑cycle analysis and reviews, and categorize the device component life cycle (i.e., non‑functional, major risk, minor risk, and no issue). Implement a Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) for supported TADSS. TADSS failures (e.g., failure to achieve applicable CPFs and/or CMT) shall be reported, analyzed, and corrected. Maintain established quantities of TADSS. Capture TADSS user feedback and participate in coordinating and managing user interviews, audits, and surveys; all feedback shall be made available in the ISTS. Remove, replace, and relocate targets. Recovery of INOP Targets Trouble shoot targets and target cabling. Inspect targets for safety issues. Assess, remove, and repair damaged silhouettes. Performs Target Battery testing, replacement, and installation. PMCS and verification of dedicated targets. Check communications with the C2 facility for each BES. Test Fire system to ensure everything is working properly. Store and account for all issued parts and materials to support range maintenance operations. Required to build, fabricate, and repair targets for range operations. Safely operate company vehicle; navigate established range roads and trails to specific locations using basic navigation techniques with map/compass, Global Positioning System (GPS), Night Optical Devices (NOD) when necessary, and radio communication systems. Assigned task to support the military Rotational Training Unit’s MILES install / de‑install and instrumentation. Clean target pits. Assess, repair, and replace cables for targets. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in electronic technology (or equivalent) and 7-years’ experience in a related discipline, 7-years related military training, or a combination of education and experience. Valid US-issued Driver’s License. Must be able to pass a background check. Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret Security clearance. ETA Basic Electronics Certification IAW ISO 17024 standards. Ability to use tools and test equipment to troubleshoot a circuit down to the component level. Experience with Microsoft Office. Good written composition and verbal communication skills. Ability to express facts and rationale. Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. secret security clearance. Ability to stoop, bend, lift, and carry up to 75 lbs. Experience using Oscilloscopes, Digital Multimeters, Function Generators, Power supply, and multiple hand tools. Working Conditions Ability to perform duties in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, and rain). Exposure to bright flashes of light. Exposure to loud noise between 50 dB and 165 dB. Physical Requirements Do repetitive tasks. Requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Required to stoop under or squat, kneel, and crouch. Able to reach with your hands and arms, talk, and hear. Lifting: Frequently lift and move up to 75 lbs.
