Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) – Urgent + Routine Care Setting Location: River North, Chicago, IL Job Type: Full-Time (100% In-Person) Schedule: Flexible Shifts About Us SHFT Behavioral Health is a first-of-its-kind clinic offering same-day mental health support for both urgent and routine needs. We serve clients ages five and up, providing single-session chats, urgent assessments, routine therapy, and medication management. We are open seven days a week, and clients can walk in or schedule appointments in advance. Our clinic bridges the gap between traditional outpatient therapy and emergency care, providing accessible, high-quality mental health services in a supportive, innovative environment. What You’ll Do Provide comprehensive psychiatric care across urgent and routine settings, including diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and same-day consultations Conduct psychiatric assessments, evaluate risk, and develop individualized safety and treatment plans Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including ongoing monitoring and adjustments Coordinate referrals and ensure appropriate follow-up care Complete timely, high-quality clinical documentation using our electronic health record system Participate in team meetings, peer case consultations, and interdisciplinary collaboration Support outreach and engagement activities, including community representation and partnership efforts Qualifications Master’s degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) Current DEA registration and Illinois Controlled Substance License Authorization for independent clinical practice as a PMHNP in Illinois Clinical experience in acute care, emergency, or similarly high-acuity settings Demonstrated experience conducting psychiatric evaluations, including risk assessment and safety planning Demonstrated experience managing acute psychiatric presentations and crisis situations Experience providing medication management and brief psychiatric interventions Strong interpersonal skills and sound clinical judgment Active, unrestricted Illinois APRN license Requirements Full-time, in-person availability in Chicago, IL Willingness to work flexible shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends; some weekend shifts are required Spanish fluency strongly preferred Experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults preferred Core Competencies Clinical Judgment & Decision-Making: Ability to rapidly assess psychiatric presentations, triage needs, and make sound clinical decisions in both urgent and routine contexts Crisis Assessment & Intervention: Effectively evaluates and manages acute psychiatric risk, including safety planning and stabilization Medication Management: Applies evidence-based prescribing practices, including monitoring efficacy, side effects, and treatment adherence Diagnostic Formulation: Accurately assesses and differentiates psychiatric conditions to inform treatment planning Adaptability: Functions effectively in a fast-paced, hybrid urgent/routine care environment with shifting clinical demands Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Builds rapport and communicates effectively with clients, families, and care teams Collaboration & Teamwork: Works within an interdisciplinary team to support coordinated, high-quality care Organization & Time Management: Manages a dynamic caseload while maintaining timely documentation and follow-up Professionalism & Ethical Practice: Maintains clinical standards, confidentiality, and adherence to scope of practice Cultural Competence: Engages and adapts care for diverse populations with varying clinical, cultural, and social needs Why Join Us?
