Clinical Applications Specialist I

Location This position covers portions of VA, W. VA, KY, TN, NC, SC. Best area to be located is central NC. Role Summary The Clinical Applications Specialist (CAS) supports assembly of Carl Zeiss instruments and peripheral devices, performs basic equipment troubleshooting, trains technicians and/or doctors on instrument operation, and communicates basic equipment maintenance procedures professionally. Responsibilities Manage on-site and remote trainings within a given territory, independently contacting customers, scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements and addressing customer inquiries. Communicate regularly with CAS in adjacent territories to coordinate on-site trainings of "border" customers. Possess knowledge of the diagnostic ophthalmic industry. Serve as the customer’s liaison to Carl Zeiss liaison on administrative and technical/clinical issues. Converse regularly with Regional Sales Managers & Field Service Engineers regarding customer satisfaction or training issues to build relationships. Begin process of learning to identify & communicate sales leads. Prepare and submit applicable documentation (expense reports, product training checklists) complete, accurate & timely. Maintain & continually update knowledge on all appropriate Carl Zeiss products. Adhere to "CAS Responsibility" document. Other duties may include setup and instruction on Carl Zeiss equipment at conventions and/or seminars. Maintain currency of and adhere to applicable GMP and ISO 9001 processes and procedures. Abide by state and federal employment law. Qualifications At least 3-5 years experience in an ophthalmology clinic setting or the diagnostic ophthalmology industry, or comparable experience. Knowledge of visual fields, lensometry, refractometry, and biometry and/or fundus photography; knowledge of laser scanning technology helpful. Good communication skills (written & verbal) and ability to work with customers in challenging situations. Ability to follow standard practices & procedures in analyzing data or situations from which answers can readily be obtained. Basic computer skills & software (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel). Ability to travel overnight and work occasional weekends. Well organized and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Valid driver’s license. Special Demands Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds. Extensive travel by automobile and air, with some overnight travel. Job requires long distance automobile travel with frequent bending and kneeling. Requires an average of 4 hours driving per day and 2 customer visits per day. Must conduct oneself in accordance with standards of professional business protocol, routinely meet basic job performance criteria and present as well groomed and attired.
