SRE Lead Architect || Location Albany, NY || Employment type - contract
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced SRE Lead Architect to design and lead enterprise-scale reliability, observability, automation, and cloud infrastructure strategies. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in SRE practices, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, CI/CD, monitoring, and incident management.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and implement SRE architecture, reliability standards, and engineering best practices.
- Design highly available, scalable, and resilient cloud-native platforms.
- Establish SLOs, SLIs, SLAs, error budgets, and reliability metrics.
- Lead observability strategy using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, or similar.
- Architect and optimize Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud infrastructure.
- Drive automation for deployment, infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and operational processes.
- Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, and disaster recovery initiatives.
- Design and improve CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
- Partner with development, security, architecture, and operations teams to improve application reliability and performance.
- Mentor SRE/DevOps engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, Cloud Engineering, or Infrastructure Architecture.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, and cloud-native architecture.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong scripting/programming skills in Python, Bash, or Go.
- Expertise in observability, monitoring, logging, and distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of SLO/SLI, SLA, error budgets, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Experience with incident management, RCA, disaster recovery, and high-availability architecture.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, ELK, or OpenTelemetry.
- Knowledge of Kafka, Redis, API gateways, and microservices.
- Experience with service mesh, serverless, and event-driven architectures.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps, security, compliance, and cloud governance.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and technical leadership skills.
