Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Nestled on the Central California Coast, this 162-bed acute care facility has been providing care to its community since 1959. The facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and is a county-designated trauma center. The surrounding area offers a lively community atmosphere along with nearby serene beaches known for their natural beauty, making it an ideal location for both work and leisure.

Job Summary

The RNFA will perform professional functions in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. This role involves coordinating, managing, providing, and delegating patient care while adhering to established Standards of Nursing Practice. The RNFA will also assist under the direction of the primary operating surgeon in the perioperative care of patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position emphasizes accountability, leadership, and professionalism in nursing practice.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience

• Graduate of a school of nursing: Required
• Certification of completion of an approved didactic RNFA course: Required
• Three years of scrub and circulate experience in an acute care facility: Required
• Annual surgeon review: Required

Licenses/Certifications

• Current RN license in the state of practice: Required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor: Required
• Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR): Required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from an approved vendor: Preferred
• Current Professional Liability insurance: Required

Essential Functions

• Assure that patients' personal needs are met.
• Assist in reducing noise levels within the nursing unit.
• Participate in the Standards of Conduct and demonstrate commitment to teamwork.
• Maintain patient, co-worker, and hospital privacy.
• Ensure documentation is clear, concise, and legible.
• Deliver clear and concise reports and complete all assigned quality monitors as directed.

Additional Information

This position requires rotating shifts, including 5 x 8-hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, or 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with call responsibilities every third weekend. Candidates must possess experience in primary spine, orthopedic, and robotic surgeries, as well as proficiency in Epic software.
