Manufacturing Process Engineer

Job Summary A Reliability / Maintenance Engineering role based in Buffalo Grove, IL, within Abbott Diabetes Care. Responsibilities focus on sustaining automation equipment, ensuring reliability, and supporting continuous improvement projects. Responsibilities Managing spare part inventory levels for assigned equipment families; identifying stock‑out conditions and coordinating restocking. Overseeing identification of obsolete parts, researching replacements, and completing engineering reviews, documentation, and validation. Managing equipment upgrades in collaboration with OEMs. Developing continuous improvement projects from reliability reviews to reduce unplanned downtime and increase first‑pass yield. Identifying preventive maintenance deficiencies and working with TPM to enhance them. Identifying spare parts eligible for refurbishment and coordinating repairs with approved contractors. Planning and conducting small to medium‑sized engineering projects, preparing conventional plans, investigations, and equipment specifications. Understanding customer, business, and technical considerations and integrating these into project scoping and planning. Estimating and coordinating resources—materials, budget, time, and personnel—for assigned tasks with contingencies. Participating in basic economic analysis and feasibility studies for project alternatives. Benchmarking external and internal environments to identify potential issues or opportunities and preparing contingencies. Executing design of products, processes, equipment, systems, or facilities using standard engineering theories and techniques. Investigating, testing, gathering data, performing preliminary analysis, and reporting findings and recommendations to stakeholders. Creating or modifying designs for intermediate problems, including detailed design specifications. Reviewing data for patterns or trends, drawing insights, and recommending actions to pursue opportunities or solve problems. Conducting root‑cause analysis to resolve underlying problems, applying a customer‑centric perspective. Implementing improvements to methods, designs, and processes, sharing best practices to reduce cost and enhance efficiency. Communicating with stakeholders through formal and informal media tailored to audience needs and priorities. Building open, collaborative relationships with colleagues, contractors, and vendors, aligning on common goals, and following through commitments. Mentoring others by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback within the team and to cross‑functional partners. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a closely related discipline—or an equivalent combination of education and experience—is desired. Minimum of 2 years of experience in engineering, project management, and/or operational roles. Working technical knowledge and application of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. Ability to analyze moderate‑scope problems requiring review of identifiable factors. Preferred Qualifications Judgment exercised within defined procedures to determine appropriate action. Strong collaboration skills with diverse engineering groups and internal/external partners. Effective listening and respectful communication in oral, written, and presentation contexts. Experience working in fast‑paced, goal‑driven engineering environments. Negotiation and reconciliation skills for resolving differences. Technical background in health care, nutrition, diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or related industries.
