Role Description Job Title: Construction Manager Reports To: Project Manager & Company Operations Leadership Job Status: Full-Time (on-site in Chicago, IL) Specific Job Opportunity Novaline is seeking to add a seasoned Construction Manager to lead our field execution with a focus on industrial construction with civil and concrete experience. JOB SUMMARY The Construction Manager (Superintendent) is primarily responsible to execute projects from start to finish; the ability to complete project on-time, within budget and exceed customer expectations. They manage all trades and daily activities related to the project, ensure materials are delivered and installed, and keep site clean and safe. Preferred Education/Experience 10+ years of experience in the Construction Management field. 5+ years in a supervisory or management role overseeing field crews and subcontractors. Experience managing projects ranging from $10M to $100M+ in scope Chemical plants, Refineries, Manufacturing facilities, power plants, cement processing, metals processing type construction, MEP Installations, civil and concrete. Required Skills/specialized Knowledge/Abilities Ability to review and understand Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Ability to understand architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, process, electrical and instrumentation engineering documents. Knowledge of industrial construction, means and methods, scheduling and cost control procedures, general contract, general conditions, subcontract documents, drawings and specifications. Background in industrial construction with civil and concrete experience. Proven written and verbal communication abilities; proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite, Autodesk Construction Cloud and or Procore. Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills. Must possess strong technical, communication and computer skills, including email and document management/organization TRAVEL Typical 90% - 100% of the time on site in Chicago, IL. Travel is typical to client’s site for the duration of a project or program. Novaline provides travel per diem at local GSA rates for lodging, meals & incidentals. We reimburse (2) flights home per month minimum. We provide an allowance for rental car and fuel to be tracked and reimbursed per receipts. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Primary liaison with construction project manager/subcontractors for the day-to-day construction activities of the multiple projects they oversee. Participate in the pre-construction planning sessions by trade to be familiar with the unique characteristics of the schedule and trade interface. Become knowledgeable with the scope of all subcontract agreements. Ensure material is delivered to the construction site per the construction schedule. Maintain daily logs, weekly reports and progress photographs. Overseeing and making decisions related to the performance of work related to scheduling, delivery, logistics, quality control and trade employee staffing levels. Overseeing work among assigned trades to promote a coordinated project operation. Resolve local area problems regarding procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor and equipment, schedule and all other appropriate matters. Manage the overall site safety program as required and ensuring subcontractor compliance with Novaline standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations. Creating schedules and determining sequencing of work. Developing and implementing recovery strategies to maintain project schedule. Manage schedules, including preparation of detailed (2-week schedule); short-term schedules and ensuring all activities take place on or ahead of scheduled dates Advise Project Manager of circumstances and issues that will have a significant impact on the project schedule Document issues and problems that have developed along with identification of the person(s) responsible for their resolution Make sure all the updated documents for site operations plan (i.e., safety manual, daily logs, visitor log, emergency action plan, first aid, dumpsters, toiletry, trailer, plans, specifications, contracts, scope of work, contact list) Compile and schedule punch list items for completion. Ensures that any quality issues are resolved. Verify change orders are outside Subcontractors scope of work. Mentor & Develop Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents to become successful Superintendents. Responsible for ensuring that proper protocol is followed in relation to Novaline procedures. Manage the scope of work to ensure that it is installed in compliance with and conforms to the approved contract documents. Inspection of Contractor or (sub)Contract operations to ensure compliance with contract Maintain good working relationships with all trades Develop and maintain site logistics plan, in coordination with Project Manager. Serve as the point of contact for project management staff, subcontractors, building owners and managers, building engineers, architects and more Coordinate site testing and inspection efforts Demonstrate commitment to an Injury-Free Environment through personal actions and mentoring others PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
