Systems Engineer II

Role Summary The Systems Engineer II supports system engineering activities for new and existing product development initiatives, with a focus on mobile applications. This role works cross‑functionally to contribute to the definition, design, and development of Tandem products, enabling end‑to‑end clinical and non‑clinical customer workflows across the product lifecycle. Responsibilities Design system‑level solutions for mobile application releases, with emphasis on globalization of mobile applications. Define system‑level requirements, interface specifications, and subsystem designs in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Develop, document, maintain, and communicate system and subsystem requirements and design, in coordination with stakeholders such as Engineering, Product Management, Cybersecurity, IT and QA. Provide system expertise to support on‑market products technical support troubleshooting, failure analysis, and triage of system‑level issues. Contribute to the development and maintenance of inter‑system interface specifications and contracts, considering cross‑subsystem impacts. Contribute to the risk management process and derive risk mitigation requirements. Maintain collaboration with product V&V teams, review test plans and protocols, and help triage issues uncovered during testing activities. Work closely with SW and HW development teams to flow down the system and subsystem requirements and assist with establishing traceability. Trace system and subsystem requirements to the user and business needs defined for the product. Qualifications Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in System Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering required, or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience. Advanced coursework, master’s degree, or professional licensing in a related field desirable. 2+ years’ experience working as a Systems Engineer or with systems engineering responsibilities in a multidisciplinary project team environment. 2+ years’ experience working in a regulated industry; Medical Device industry preferred. Experience with requirements management systems (e.g., JAMA, DNG), highly desirable. Demonstrated capability in Systems Engineering practices such as requirements management, design trade‑off and cost‑benefit analysis, system failure modes and adversarial scenario analysis. Ability to work and deliver a high‑quality work product with mentoring. Ability to effectively convey information related to work product and lead review discussions. Familiarity with ISO 13845, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, HIPAA and/or GDPR preferred. Work Location & Hours Hybrid: This role will be a mix of in‑office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. Expected in office 2–3 days per week, may vary depending on business demands. Compensation & Benefits The starting base pay range for this position is $81,000 – $110,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market.
