The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. May serve in an on-call status on a rotating schedule as required to meet operational needs of the facility. Performs custodial functions timely and with high quality including sweeping, mopping, dusting and cleaning windows and light fixtures. Ensures proper sanitization and disinfection in accordance with training received. Cleans and maintains floor care, restroom care, bedroom care, nurses’ station and isolation areas in accordance with established procedures and safety measures. Maintains and cleans the interior and exterior of assigned buildings. Reports needed repairs. Empties trash. Replenishes supplies as needed. Trains and coaches other custodians as needed, and provides documentation of any training conducted. Inspects assigned buildings and areas for cleanliness, completed work and needed minor repairs, and performs minor maintenance. Completes documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Protects confidential information. Maintains inventory and equipment records. Helps residents maintain optimal health and provides a safe environment for self, persons served and others. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations. Knowledge of infection control principles and methods. Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods. Skill in use of custodial equipment, materials and the safe handling chemicals. Skill in use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to train others. Ability to supervise the work of others. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended period. Ability to work harmoniously and productively with co-workers and residents. Ability to work irregular hours. Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date to drive a state vehicle. Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent; Paid work experience in any field; or Unpaid housekeeping/custodial service experience. Preferred Six months of experience in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel or other similar residential equivalent. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
