Therapy Assistant

Job Summary: Provide essential support to physical, occupational, and speech therapists by assisting with patient care and maintaining treatment areas and equipment. This role involves helping both inpatients and outpatients with various therapy services, ensuring smooth communication and excellent customer service.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Apply practical clinical skills and common sense to assist patients based on their age and diagnosis.

2. Uphold the mission, values, and service philosophy of the department.

3. Support therapists during treatments by assisting with hot packs, cryotherapy, exercise supervision, vital sign monitoring, ambulation, transfer training, dressing changes, and equipment setup such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation.

4. Aid patients with dressing, positioning, and equipment delivery, acting as a liaison between patients and therapists.

5. Perform limited front office duties including patient chart preparation, charge entry, order monitoring, filing, paperwork follow-up, copying, faxing, and supply ordering.

6. Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, equipment, and supplies, and manage inventory of medical supplies and linens.

7. Transport inpatients to and from therapy sessions as needed.

8. Observe patients during treatment and promptly report any distress or equipment issues to therapists.

9. Participate in orientation, monthly meetings, and ongoing training.

10. Commit to personal clinical development and foster teamwork within and across departments.

Education and Experience:

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- No prior experience required, though experience in similar roles or strong communication skills are advantageous.

- Basic computer skills preferred, especially familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, Meditech, or data entry.

Licensure/Certifications:

- CPR certification preferred; if not held at hire, must obtain within six months.
