Locum Tenens Physician Opportunity in Obstetrics & Gynecology

This locum tenens opportunity is located in Petersburg, Virginia. The role involves both inpatient and outpatient care with a varied shift schedule including clinic hours and 24-hour call coverage.

Coverage dates include:

• Jul 20, 24-26, 2026
• Sep 4-6, 24, 28, 2026
• Oct 5, 12, 16-18, 22, 26, 2026
• Nov 2, 9, 20-23, 27, 30, 2026
• Dec 7, 17, 21, 25-27, 29, 31, 2026

The facility provides a mix of C-sections, vaginal deliveries, suction D&C, ectopic pregnancies, ovarian torsion, and abnormal bleeding cases. The EMR system used is EPIC, and MFM specialty backup is available. Support staff includes RNs and OBHG hospitalists.

Hospital privileges are required, with temporary privileges available for candidates with a clean background. The credentialing process takes 60-90 days.

Required procedures include:

• C-sections
• Vaginal deliveries
• Suction D&C
• Ectopic pregnancies
• Ovarian torsion
• Abnormal bleeding

Job requirements include board certification in ABOG, an active VA license, an active VA DEA and CSR, BLS certification, and procedure logs showing a minimum of 50 deliveries and 15 C-sections in the last 12 months. Candidates must also self-query NPDB reports and have a clean background.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Providing 24-hour call coverage (7a-7a) including rounding in the morning at the hospital
• Covering clinic shifts (8:30a-3p) with approximately 20 patients scheduled
• Managing unreferred patients presenting for deliveries and rounding in collaboration with the Laborist
• Performing required procedures including C-sections, vaginal deliveries, D&Cs, and emergency gynecological surgeries
• Responding to calls from the answering service with a minimal callback rate (less than 1 per 24hr shift)
