We are searching for an Embedded Software Engineer IV to join our Elevator Controls team at Vantage Elevation.This is a senior-level individual contributor role responsible for the design, development, modification, testing, and maintenance of embedded software used in elevator control systems. Founded in 1927, the Vantage group employs over 900 staff in multiple locations across the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom.RequirementsWe are searching for a candidate with:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience7+ years of experience in real-time embedded software or firmware engineeringStrong embedded firmware development experience with deep knowledge of embedded software systems and related programmingStrong proficiency in C and C++Experience working with real-time operating systemsStrong understanding of the interaction between embedded software and underlying hardwareDemonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex software, firmware, and hardware-related issuesStrong knowledge of software engineering principles, design standards, architecture, and development best practicesExperience with low-level device drivers highly desirableExperience with IAR ARM development highly desirableExperience with scripting and development tools such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Cygwin, and Make highly desirableExperience with revision control systems such as Git or SubversionKnowledge of electrical systems and general board-level designExperience performing and reviewing software testing to ensure sufficient coverage and qualityAbility to perform technical and design reviews and provide constructive guidance to other engineersAbility to work autonomously on advanced and complex technical projects while collaborating effectively across functional teamsAbility to provide technical leadership and guidance on difficult or high-visibility projects and issuesStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and structured problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and projects with minimal supervisionElevator industry experience and knowledge of elevator systems, elevator control equipment, and applicable elevator codes highly preferredDuties and ResponsibilitiesA typical day may include:Designing, developing, modifying, and maintaining embedded software supporting the operation of elevator control systemsWorking autonomously on advanced and complex technical projects requiring significant software engineering and industry knowledgeTroubleshooting and debugging complex new and existing electronic hardware, firmware, and software systemsResolving challenging technical issues independently using structured and methodical troubleshooting practicesDeveloping embedded software in C and C++ and utilizing additional programming or scripting languages as requiredDesigning and supporting low-level software and device-driver functionalityPerforming functionality, performance, integration, and validation testing for new and modified softwareReviewing testing approaches and providing guidance to ensure appropriate test coverage and qualityPerforming technical and design reviews to ensure software changes are technically sound and align with established design standards, best practices, and product architectureReviewing and challenging product designs to identify technical risks, improve solutions, and ensure alignment with business and product objectivesSupporting the definition and implementation of product architecture and ensuring architectural requirements are understood and properly implemented by the development teamSupporting the development and implementation of technical roadmaps based on both technical and business needsWorking closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Support, Product, and other cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycleProactively engaging with field and manufacturing teams to own and drive resolution of reported product issuesProviding additional technical oversight and guidance on difficult, high-visibility, or business-critical issuesLeading or providing technical leadership on cross-functional projects as neededProviding technical guidance, mentoring, and support to less experienced engineersEvaluating new technologies and identifying opportunities to apply them to Vantage products and engineering processesDeveloping and maintaining a strong understanding of Vantage products, elevator systems, and applicable A17, EN, BS, and related elevator codesSupporting management and technical leadership with input on product, software, and elevator-domain mattersPerforming other related engineering duties and projects as requiredBenefits of Working With UsThe anticipated base salary range for this position is $160,000–$170,000 annually.
