Pharmacy Technician*This is an open-pooled position. Applicants' education/experience will be considered and the position may be filled at a lower or higher level, as appropriate.*Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentRegistered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)ORRegistered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)Preferred Education & Experience:ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification preferredTwo (2) years pharmacy technician experience a plusKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:Effective communication skillsDemonstrates ability to prioritize and solve problemsAble to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending. Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs., and regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 lbs.Equipment:Standard office equipment and pharmacy equipment.Environment:Standard pharmacy environment.Working with the public.Work with chemotherapy and other bio-hazardous agentsWorking weekends and shift rotations when applicable.May be required to work overtime and extended shifts during emergencies.May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others.Job Description:The Pharmacy Technologist assists Pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.Essential Job Functions:Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient's weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Retrieves and delivers medication orders and supplies.Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standardsCompounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards.Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cartfill and Automated Drug Systems.Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages are noted.Performs quality assurance/improvement auditsMaintains a neat clean and organized work area.Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.Assists pharmacists in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient's weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area.Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.Performs related duties as required.Pharmacy Technician Trainee:Required Education / Experience:High school or equivalent and no experience required.Preferred Qualifications:Must be registered with the Texas Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician TraineeJob Summary:To provide technical assistance in the dispensing of prescribed medications and pharmaceutical preparations.Major Duties / Critical Tasks:Retrieves and delivers medication and supplies.Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient's weight, allergies, and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Repackages and labels medication items in the inpatient setting specific to patient needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area.Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas.Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cart fill, and Automated Drug Systems.Performs automated compounding repackaging and cart-fill.Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).Maintains a neat clean and organized work area.Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.Adheres to internal controls established for department.Performs other related duties as requested.Equal Employment Opportunity:UTMB Health strives to provide equal opportunity employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law.
