Environmental and Permitting Manager
Redhawk Copper Inc
Faraday Copper is a growth oriented Canadian junior mining company focused on responsibly advancing our flagship development stage project in Arizona, through our subsidiary company, Redhawk Copper. With a highly energetic and collaborative team, we are committed to building a modern mining operation grounded in operational excellence, environmental stewardship, and strong community partnerships.
Faraday recently announced it has entered into definitive agreement to acquire BHP's San Manuel property in Arizona, creating the potential for a multi-asset copper district in the USA. As we transition from exploration to project development, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Environmental and Permitting Manager to manage our permitting efforts in Arizona. Reporting to the Director of Permitting, the Environmental and Permitting Manager owns the integrated permitting register and schedule that carries the combined asset from a pre- Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) position through construction, spanning federal and state permitting agencies. The role also manages day-to-day site environmental performance for active exploration: drilling programs, ground disturbance clearances, stormwater and spill controls, and the environmental baseline data collection program. The role is hands-on and field field-facing. Primary Responsibilities- Develop and maintain the integrated permitting register and master schedule across both assets, sequencing federal, state, county, and local approvals against the PEA-through-feasibility timeline and flagging critical-path risks to the Director.
- Manage the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) pathway, including 43 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 3809 exploration notices and plans of operation, and support scoping of an anticipated National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), including Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act Title 41 (FAST-41) coordination where applicable.
- Manage the Arizona state portfolio: Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Aquifer Protection Permit (APP) and Air Quality permitting, Mined Land Reclamation Plan (MLRP) with the State Mine Inspector, Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) matters, and Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) authorizations.
- Coordinate with the Land Manager on Arizona State Land Department instruments, surface access, and rights of way needed for permits and ground disturbance.
- Manage reclamation bonding for exploration disturbance, including BLM financial guarantees and cost estimates, and track concurrent reclamation of completed pads and roads.
- Secure drill pad and access road authorizations and confirm biological and cultural clearances are complete before any ground disturbance.
- Own stormwater compliance under the Arizona Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP) and our Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), along with Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) planning, dust control, exploration site waste management, and drilling fluids and sump containment.
- Manage inspections and documentation of active drill sites and hold drilling and earthworks contractors accountable through inductions, field oversight, and corrective actions.
- Direct the baseline field program underpinning future permit applications (surface water, groundwater, air and meteorological stations, biological, cultural, soils, noise), with field oversight of specialist consultants and alignment of data scope, timing, and quality to study needs so permitting is never delayed by data gaps.
- Maintain the environmental management system, compliance tracker, and obligations register.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and notifications, track permit conditions, and deliver internal compliance reporting to the Director.
- Manage consultants, scopes, and budgets; maintain agency relationships with the BLM, ADEQ, ADWR, the State Mine Inspector, and Pinal County; represent the company in agency meetings and inspections.
- Deliver environmental and cultural awareness training for employees and contractors, biological and cultural protocols, and pre-disturbance procedures.
- Assess and minimize environmental risks, investigate and document incidents, coordinate internal and external audits, and maintain current knowledge of federal and Arizona regulatory developments.
- Bachelor of Science in environmental science, hydrology, geology, engineering, natural resources, or a related discipline.
- Ten or more years of combined environmental permitting and site environmental management experience, including exploration or development stage mining projects.
- Demonstrated federal and state permitting experience, including BLM notices or plans of operations and NEPA processes;
- Working knowledge of Clean Water Act (CWA)/ AZPDES stormwater, SPCC, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) waste, and Clean Air Act (CAA) dust control requirements at field sites.
- Experience managing environmental baseline programs and consultants across surface water, groundwater, biological, and cultural studies. Familiarity with reclamation bonding and financial assurance for exploration and mining disturbance.
- Strong project management, budgeting, technical writing, and agency relationship skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-changing field environment.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles in remote and rugged terrain.
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Direct experience with ADEQ APP and Air Quality, State Mine Inspector MLRPs, and ADWR matters.
- EIS support experience.
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate work assignments, procedures, and safety requirements in English.
- Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Redhawk Copper Inc. promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment with mandatory employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
- Bonus eligibility.
- Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and paid time off.
