Operating Room Assistant

Overview Consistently cleans operating rooms and other areas in the OR suite according to established OR policy and procedures. Helps with patient transfers before and after OR cases. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Responsibilities Consistently clean OR areas and restock supplies according to established policy and procedures. Clean and prepare OR rooms between procedures, after terminal cleaning, and during total cleaning. Remove scrubs, used supplies, and extra equipment at the end of the day; keep hallways free for fire and safety precautions and keep boxes off the floor and out of restricted areas. Participate in maintaining a clean and safe environment at all times. Assist with the OR by transporting patients using proper body mechanics to protect patient and personal safety; demonstrate awareness of patient needs for comfort and safety and provide accurate nursing care. Collect, label, and transport specimens to the proper area on time; always check labels, patient name, and signatures. Check scrub and work sinks; restock masks, brushes, and soap containers; clean scrub sinks; remove dirty brushes; maintain the OR lounge; empty garbage; take trays back to the kitchen. Maintain all OR work areas, organize scrubs and laundry; clean and make stretchers and beds using universal precautions; place special equipment or positioning devices on beds. Stock and clean the work cart; maintain warming cabinets stocked with linen; order supplies as needed; stockwr‑am‑er with water and saline; damp‑dust all furniture, carts, hallway, and relevant equipment. Assist in patient positioning and transfer; position patients for the type of surgery being performed and maintain patient safety by applying body‑alignment principles. Correctly identify the patient by name; check the patient name band for accuracy and secure it on the patient’s wrist. Provide patients with clean linen, straighten beds, and support all members of the health‑care team as needed for patient care and safety. Order supplies when necessary, receive items delivered, and place them in the proper location. Dispose of needle buckets using universal precautions; maintain temperature and humidity logs and eye wash stations. Qualifications HS graduate or equivalent. Read and speak conversational English. High school diploma and on‑the‑job training. Minimum six months of relevant experience. Working Conditions Manual: Little or no manual skills/motor coordination/finger dexterity required. Occupational: Significant occupational risk. Physical effort: Very heavy effort; may exert up to 50 lbs. force. Physical environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc. Compensation Salary Range: $17.00 – $28.50 hourly. #J-18808-Ljbffr
