RN Intermediate Medical Care Unit

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care within their scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. This role includes patient assessment, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, wound care, pain management, patient education, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate overall patient care. The RN will also supervise unlicensed assistive personnel and document all care accurately and timely. Acute care hospital experience and proficiency with telemetry and cardiac rhythm interpretation are essential. Responsibilities:

• Assess patients physically, psychosocially, and for learning needs, including discharge planning.
• Identify and interpret cardiac rhythm strips and proficiently use telemetry and defibrillator equipment.
• Establish nursing diagnoses and develop, update, and implement individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and perform skin assessments, wound care, and pain management.
• Operate biomedical and patient care equipment such as infusion pumps, monitors, and therapeutic devices.
• Assist physicians and licensed practitioners with invasive and non-invasive procedures.
• Teach patients and families about illnesses, treatments, medications, and wellness promotion.
• Provide assignment, supervision, and direction to unlicensed assistive personnel.
• Document patient assessments, interventions, teaching, and care in electronic and paper records.
• Evaluate care effectiveness and communicate patient status to the interdisciplinary team.
• Respond effectively to patient emergencies and crises.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Oregon.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or obtained within 6 months.
• Recent acute care hospital experience within the past 5 years preferred.
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry system use.
• Effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to document accurately in electronic medical records.

• Experience in intermediate or progressive care settings within the past two years.
• Flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing patient and unit needs.
• Proficiency with computer applications including internet and word processing.

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
• May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Use of standard precautions due to exposure risk to blood and body fluids.
• Effective communication skills required for diverse patient populations and team collaboration.
• Union affiliation with ONA.

• Day shifts in the Intermediate Care Unit; specific shift assignments may vary.
• Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance at the assigned job location is required.
