Foster Care Supervisor

Description TASKS OF THE POSITION
Provides direct supervision and evaluates the performance of assigned staff.
Holds weekly supervision session with all assigned staff.
Participates in "leadership team meetings" to make decisions regarding referrals, client replacements, etc.
Keeps Program Manager well informed of pertinent departmental situations.
Facilitates Team Meeting weekly.
Maintains a work schedule that provides accessibility that supports the needs of the community based
environment.
Participates and facilitates in continuous quality improvement efforts.
Facilitates training of new departmental staff.
Functions in a supportive and leadership role for foster parents.
Gathers monthly and weekly departmental data and statistics as required.
Assigns/monitors case load with Foster Care Specialists.
Plans and organizes work to meet all job requirements according to agency and COA standards, licensing rules,
and funding requirements.
Works collaboratively with Vista Maria staff and representatives of other agencies with the mission of providing a
high standard of services to the children in foster care.
Regularly prepares for and participates in individual supervision, team meetings, and other agency meetings.
Performs all other duties as required or requested by the agency.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of social work, and social service administration.
Skilled in supervisory methods and techniques, including leadership and motivating employees.
Knowledge of DHS and CMS policies as it relates to foster care.
Knowledge of clinical theories, therapeutic interventions, psychotropic medications, clinical assessment skills, and
diagnosing.
Skilled in evaluating the effectiveness of administrative and operational programs and in implementing changes to
provide for more effective and efficient operations.
Ability to work independently in the field and to use team resources/supervision to enhance performance.
Ability to assess client mental health symptoms and service needs.
Ability to be flexible in prioritizing in a changing system.
Demonstrated personal integrity and professional demeanor in accordance with the ethics of the agency and
profession.
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills to compose and/or edit written materials.
Knowledge of current practice developments within the profession, and uses educational and training opportunities
to ensure continual professional competence.
Ability to work cooperatively and in collaboration to establish rapport with Vista Maria staff and representatives of
other agencies, foster care families, planning family and schools.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (CONTINUED)
Demonstrated skills in organization, priority/time management, problem solving, and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated ability to interact positively in a culturally diverse environment and to deal effectively with various
levels of Vista Maria personnel, outside customers and community groups.
Demonstrated computer literacy skills at least in Word programs.
SMART GOALS
1. Meets with Program Manager, on a weekly basis, to review and update on all activity using the Coaching Agenda
(to include staff, foster parents, situations, client moves, potential client moves, reporting on the timeliness of
documentation.)
2. Facilitates weekly clinical supervision with Foster Care Specialist providing feedback on: performance improvement
opportunities; cases; documentation. Additionally, provide education and coaching.
3. No substantiated complaints regarding personal interactions with the agency and community.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervises Foster Care Specialists. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in
accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, performance
management, discipline, training, and coaching. Requirements QUALIFICATION (EDUCATION / TRAINING)
Required:
Bachelor's degree in human services, such as counseling, social work, psychology, etc., from an accredited
school.
Two-years of post-Bachelor's experience in a supervisory position.
Working knowledge of diagnostic criteria and coding.
Preferred:
Master's Degree with a major in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling with related licensure and/or
certification.
Two-years of post-Master's experience in a clinical position.
Two-years of post-Master's experience in a supervisory position.
Prior experience in program supervision and evaluation including clinical case management, quality management
activities.
Familiarity and experience in the Child Welfare field, Foster Care preferred.
Completion of Child Welfare Institute (CWI) training required by the State of Michigan.
Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS) trained.
