Utility Billing Cashier

Under direct supervision of the Utility Billing Operations Manager, provide excellent front line customer support for in person and over the phone customers, take payments in person by cash, check and credit card. Serves more than 23,000 residential and commercial utility service accounts in accordance with clearly established policies and procedures. Frequently interfaces with City employees, City management, and general public. Prepare a cash drawer for use each morning, balance cash drawer at end of day. Take payments from walk in customer: Cash, Check or Credit Card. Answer general account questions or inquires for walk in customers, phone calls and emails. Process mail/night drop payments daily through scanning software. Track and process trash complaints received. Process requests for payment extensions or payment plans. Process applications for service start, disconnect or transfer. Process account change requests. Send welcome emails to new customers. Remains accessible via personal cell phone to address job-related issues or emergencies using City applications. Other related duties as requested. Formal Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Relatable Work Experience: One (1) 1 year of cash handling, accounts receivables and general accounting principles, general office or front facing customer service. Basic computer hardware and software operation. Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Working knowledge of applicable accounts receivable, basic cash handling procedures, and basic accounting principles. Good communication (verbal and written) and organization skills. Ability to interface professionally with employees, management, and general public. Proficiency with applicable computer equipment, utility billing software, internet, Microsoft Office, and other standard office equipment. Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an office environment. Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment.
