Summary The Ocotillo Power Plant in Tempe, Arizona is searching for an Electrical Engineer I/II. The Engineer I / II provides engineering support for power generation facilities, including electrical systems, protective relaying, instrumentation, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and associated plant equipment. Performs engineering analyses, technical studies, equipment evaluations, system modifications, and troubleshooting activities to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operation. Assists with capital and maintenance projects, develops technical documentation, and provides recommendations to improve system performance and reliability. Works under general guidance while coordinating with Operations, Maintenance, contractors, and other engineering disciplines. Supports plant outages, emergent work, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned. Minimum Requirements Engineer I A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). Engineer II A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) Plus two (2) years working experience in Engineering-related positions. Approved degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management.) Major Accountabilities Provide engineering support for plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), protective relaying, motor control centers, generators, transformers, and associated balance‑of‑plant equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities for electrical and control system issues, equipment failures, process upsets, and reliability concerns. Develop recommendations and assist with implementation of corrective actions. Provide technical support to Operations and Maintenance personnel by assisting with equipment troubleshooting, testing activities, commissioning, maintenance planning, and outage support. Serve as a technical resource for assigned electrical and control systems. Support site NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance activities by assisting with the identification and categorization of Programmable Electronic Devices (PEDs), maintaining required documentation and records, supporting project reviews, and helping ensure plant activities are performed in accordance with applicable CIP requirements. Assist with the development and implementation of plant improvement projects, including equipment upgrades, control system modifications, reliability initiatives, and capital projects. Prepare engineering documentation, specifications, cost estimates, and technical evaluations as assigned. Analyze plant performance and equipment data to identify trends, reliability concerns, and opportunities for operational improvement. Provide recommendations to improve equipment performance, availability, and efficiency. Support compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies through engineering reviews, technical evaluations, documentation, and field support activities. Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, control narratives, relay settings, loop diagrams, technical reports, operating procedures, specifications, and Management of Change documentation. Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, vendors, consultants, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to support plant objectives and project requirements. Maintain awareness of industry technologies, engineering practices, and regulatory developments related to power generation, electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, and plant reliability. Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance technical knowledge and capabilities. CIP Requirement This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre‑employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access. Onsite: Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, this may include, but is not limited to, working at a power plant, job site, or in the community.
