The position involves assuming responsibility and accountability for a group of patients during a designated shift. The nurse prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process that aligns with the medical plan of care. Care is based on input from the patient and significant others. Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members is vital. The nurse coordinates the delivery of patient care for patients of all ages. Teaching and discharge planning needs are incorporated into the overall plan of care. Delegation of certain aspects of patient care to other nursing staff occurs based on their current clinical competence. Job Requirements: Education includes a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) as preferred. Acute care facility experience is also preferred. Licenses and certifications include Registered Nurse licensure and Basic Life Support certification which is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required at the time of hire. Competency in Dysrhythmia is required during orientation. Completion of Critical Care Course within one year of hire and demonstrated competency in IV Sedation is required for specified departments. Essential Functions: Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients and design individualized care plans. Evaluation of the effectiveness of care plans and patient responses are crucial. Modification of care plans is necessary based on patient needs. Age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients are considered. Collaboration with other disciplines to formulate care plans is essential. Knowledge of pharmacology is applied when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education occurs in all phases of care delivery. Responds to emergency situations and follows established protocols. Oversight of patient care delivery is conducted to ensure safety and wellbeing. Observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients are reported timely. Accountability for problem-solving and clinical decision-making during the assigned shift is expected. Continuity of care is ensured by processing and following through on physician orders. Appropriate priorities are set in providing patient care. Advocacy for patients' rights is a critical responsibility. Delegation to nursing support staff occurs based on their clinical competence. Responsibility for personal actions and decisions is maintained. Communication skills are utilized to facilitate effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues. Documentation of assessments, interventions, and care provided is required. Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies. Emergency procedures are executed as necessary, and safe use of equipment is demonstrated. Additional job-related duties may be assigned.
