Temporary Assistant Cook - Reidsville, NC

Job Summary Assistant Cook at Betsy‑Jeff Penn 4‑H Educational Center. Supports the Food Service Director in daily planning and preparation of meals for approximately 2,000 annual visitors. Ensures kitchen operations remain compliant with state and local health requirements. Essential Job Duties Possess basic food knowledge and cooking skills. Wash, chop, peel, cut, or mix ingredients for salad/fruit bar. Prepare assigned meals for the day, aware of allergens and cross‑contamination. Availability to work open and/or close kitchen shifts as needed. Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, work areas, and equipment. Maintain dining room cleanliness after meals, taking out trash as needed. Receive deliveries using FIFO method to rotate stock in the cooler, freezer, and dry storage; help maintain inventory levels for ordering. Other duties as deemed necessary by the Food Service Director. Physical Demands Requires lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted and standing or walking for extended periods of time. Must also safely perform tasks such as washing, chopping, peeling, and cutting of various ingredients. Work Schedule Flexible schedule; may work open or close shifts as determined by the Food Service Director. Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent. At least one year of kitchen experience. Basic knowledge of allergens and food preparation/safety guidelines. ServSafe Manager Certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of start date). Proficient written and verbal communication skills. Positive customer service skills, professionalism and ability to work independently. Detail oriented, adaptable, and able to make decisions in the absence of the Food Service Director. Preferred Valid driver’s license.
