About the Role The Maintenance Supervisor leads the maintenance function at our wood coatings manufacturing facility, ensuring production equipment, facility systems, and material handling equipment are reliable, safe, and well-maintained. This is a working supervisor role: you'll spend a significant portion of your time on the floor working alongside your team troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment while also directing daily work, developing your two direct reports, and coordinating maintenance priorities with production and plant leadership. This role covers a broad range of technical systems: process and packaging machinery, automation and controls, electrical systems, HVAC, forklifts and material handling equipment, and general facility infrastructure. Because this is a chemical manufacturing environment, safety, regulatory compliance, and proper handling of hazardous materials are central to the role. Key Responsibilities Hands-On Maintenance & Repair Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production machinery, automation/controls systems, and facility equipment Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on process and packaging equipment Perform or coordinate maintenance and inspections on forklifts and other material handling equipment Maintain HVAC systems, building infrastructure, and utilities (compressed air, steam, water systems, etc.) Respond to equipment breakdowns quickly to minimize production downtime Team Supervision Directly supervise two Maintenance Technicians by assigning daily work, setting priorities, and ensuring tasks are completed safely and correctly Train, mentor, and develop technicians' skills across electrical, mechanical, and automation disciplines Conduct performance feedback and support technicians' growth and cross-training Model safe, high-quality work practices while working alongside the team Maintenance Planning & Reliability Maintain and continuously improve the preventive maintenance (PM) program for all production and facility equipment Track maintenance work orders, equipment history, and spare parts inventory Identify recurring equipment issues and lead root-cause troubleshooting to reduce unplanned downtime Coordinate maintenance schedules with production to minimize disruption to manufacturing operations Manage relationships with outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs (e.g., automation programming, HVAC service, electrical contractors) Safety & Compliance Ensure all maintenance work is performed in compliance with OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and other safety procedures Follow proper protocols for maintenance work involving chemical processing equipment, tanks, and hazardous materials Maintain compliance with electrical codes, EPA requirements, and other applicable regulations Promote a strong safety culture, including near-miss reporting and hazard identification Parts & Resource Management Maintain adequate spare parts inventory for critical equipment to minimize downtime Source parts and equipment, working within budget guidelines Recommend capital equipment repairs vs. replacement based on cost and reliability data Qualifications: Qualifications Required 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, ideally in a chemical, manufacturing, or process industry environment 2+ years of experience leading or supervising a maintenance team (formally or informally) Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical repair, and industrial equipment troubleshooting Experience with machinery automation/controls (PLCs, sensors, control panels) or willingness to develop this skill set Experience with HVAC systems maintenance Forklift certification (or ability to obtain) and familiarity with material handling equipment maintenance Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures Comfortable working in a chemical manufacturing environment with appropriate PPE and safety protocols Preferred Experience in coatings, paint, or related chemical processing industries Journeyman electrician license or equivalent electrical certification Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software Experience with compressed air systems HAZWOPER training or experience handling hazardous materials What Success Looks Like Reduced unplanned equipment downtime through effective PM and quick troubleshooting A well-trained, capable maintenance team with growing technical skills Strong safety record with proactive hazard identification and full LOTO/OSHA compliance Smooth coordination between maintenance and production to minimize disruption Reliable, well-documented maintenance and spare parts systems Gemini Industries is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace.
