They partner with families, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive environments for all students. School psychologists use problem-solving, interventions and assessments, consultation, collaboration, and data-based decision making to provide a comprehensive range of services.

Qualifications:
- Completion of an approved program in school psychology leading to an advanced degree (Educational Specialist, Certificate of Advanced Studies, or doctoral degree specifically in School Psychology)
- Valid North Carolina Department of Public Instruction license as a School Psychologist
Job Goal: WCPS school psychologists apply expertise in mental and behavioral health, learning, and social-emotional development to help support the whole student achieve within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). They partner with families, teachers, administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive environments for all students. School psychologists use problem-solving, interventions and assessments, consultation, collaboration, and data-based decision making to provide a comprehensive range of services.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: (These duties may vary by position.)
- Collaborate with district and school-level staff to deliver MTSS that provides high-quality academic and behavioral instruction and interventions matched to student needs across tiers
- Assist Individual Education Program (IEP) teams with referral concerns for students suspected of having a disability to help determine the need for evaluation.
- Administer and provide written comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations to address referral concerns and suspected areas of disability that may include, but are not limited to, psychological, educational, social-emotional, academic, behavioral, developmental, and adaptive functioning.
- Interpret psycho-educational evaluation reports and recommendations to IEP teams, which include parents, teachers, and school personnel, to aid in instructional and educational programming.
- Provide and promote crisis intervention support for individual students and the school community through school crisis response, suicide risk assessments, and threat assessments, when appropriate.
- Assist with individual and school-wide initiatives to enhance students' social-emotional and leadership development through consultation and counseling.
- Provide training and in-service for school staff members and parents on a wide variety of topics that impact student learning and other pertinent topics.
- Maintain professional skills by engaging in professional development through staff meetings, relevant in-service trainings, conferences, workshops, reading current literature, and through professional memberships.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Evaluation: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the National Association of School Psychologists' (NASP) Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services and the NC Professional School Psychology Standards;
- Knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework for service delivery, including: universal screening, progress monitoring, problem-solving process, and Implementation Science;
- Knowledge of school environments, child development, curriculum, and instruction;
- Knowledge of state and federal policies and regulations related to special education;
- Experience with a variety of formal and informal student assessment measures when considering all areas of suspected disabilities;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Apps;
- Effective consultation skills;
- Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to reflect on practice and engage in continuous improvement;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, mental health professionals, and external agencies.
