Internship Overview

Our Marketing and Communications Banking Internship Program offers a dynamic 10-week experience designed to provide undergraduate students with a comprehensive introduction to marketing and communications within banking operations, with an emphasis on corporate communications. Interns will collaborate with team members across our MarCom team.

You’ll develop a deep understanding of our communications strategy, methods, and brand voice while engaging in professional development, analytical training, and networking. Key program components include:

• Onboarding Week: Kick off your internship with an orientation, featuring training sessions, networking with peers and SouthState leaders, and an introduction to our marketing and communications business.
• Hands-On Experience: Work alongside high-performing teams, participating in daily activities to build writing and project management skills, gain insight into critical communication needs, and understand the processes for providing line of business support.
• Mentorship & Support: Partner with experienced team members who provide guidance, answer questions, and offer feedback to help you navigate challenges and grow professionally.
• Leadership Development: Hear from senior leaders about industry trends in banking marketing and communications, and how to maximize your internship experience.
• Networking Opportunities: Engage in organized events to connect with peers, team members, and leaders across the organization while contributing to community initiatives.

Internship Expectations

• Participate in internship program activities, including training sessions and special projects.
• Prioritize tasks, maintain attention to detail, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Meet with the MarCom leadership team members and/or additional team members as designated.
• Meet with the MarCom Culture Ambassador to learn about how to exemplify The SouthState Way.
• Meet with the MarCom Community Development Advocate to learn about SouthState’s commitment and volunteer efforts to support local communities.
• Meet with the various departments within MarCom.

• Attend the monthly MarCom all team member virtual and/or in-person meetings.

Key Areas of Focus

AI Awareness / Integrations

• Support efforts related to the integration into the Content Marketing Platform (CMP) for Communications.
• Support ongoing education, awareness and efficiencies.
• For this project, the intern will work with the project leader for this effort.

Content Development

• Develop content to be used internally with team members or externally to customers, via various communications channels (Internal communications, letters, email, bulletins, etc.)
• Consumer Letter Library – review existing letter templates and make any updates as needed. Create new letters designed to support deposit growth goals for the bank.
• Create fraud content to support the overall fraud communications strategy.
  

Communications Support / Line of Business (LOB) Meetings

• Participate in weekly/monthly LOB meetings as assigned. Participation may include creating various communications specific to the project and/or providing updates.
• Assist in preparing articles for the bank wide company newsletter.
• Assist in reviewing various internal communications related to the company’s culture.
• Assist in creating and posting various internal spotlight articles on the company Intranet featuring customer testimonials, community involvement, etc.
• Support the monthly Corporate Communications reporting process.

Business Continuity Plan (BCP)

• Participate in system incident calls as they occur and provide support.
• Review and update the MarCom BCP and quarterly reports as assigned.
• Review the process for creating and distributing the quarterly MarCom BCP on-call assignments.

Project Management / Communication Translations

• Gain exposure into the process for supporting foreign language translation.
• Learn about the communication project management platform.
• Understand the process for sharing external client communications with customer support representatives for awareness.
• Receive an overview of the process for scheduling external customer communications with the various mail-houses.

Weekly Schedule

• A weekly schedule will be provided to include meetings, training sessions, project focus, or any travel as needed.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Education: 3.4 GPA preferred. Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business management, information systems, or a related field; rising senior graduating in 2028.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft 365 Products (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot (AI)); strong writing, content development, time-management, analytical, and eagerness to learn.
• Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work effectively under pressure.

Training Requirements

• Complete mandatory new hire compliance training and New Employee Orientation.

Physical Demands

• Ability to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. The role requires extended time using a computer, which can be accommodated by sitting or standing at an appropriate desk. • Must be willing and flexible to travel.

Work Environment

This position is a remote work environment for 5 days a week (Monday-Friday), except for federal bank holidays: 40 hours a week.

In accordance with Colorado and Virginia law: Pay for this position is anticipated to be $20 per hour.
