Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Behavioral Health Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year in acute behavioral health License: Valid state nursing license required Certifications: BLS, CPI or MAB Must-Have: Charge nurse experience preferred Description: Minimum years of experience required: 1 year in acute behavioral health. Unit accepts first-time travelers. Travelers within 50 miles of the facility will receive a rate decrease. Target nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6. The shift is 12-hour nights from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. No call requirement. Float to other units may be required. Every other weekend coverage is required. Patients typically have safety issues such as suicidal thoughts, homicidal ideas, agitation, and thought disorders or psychosis. Patients with chronic persistent mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, depression NOS, anxiety NOS, and personality disorders may be admitted. The unit is staffed with 2 to 3 registered nurses and 2 licensed nursing assistants or mental health technicians. The adult population served is typically aged 18 to 64, with some exceptions for geriatrics depending on the milieu. The average length of stay is 10 to 14 days due to involuntary commitment laws. The unit is a locked psychiatric intensive care facility. It receives both involuntary and voluntary patients. Each patient will develop an individualized treatment plan focusing on coping skills, problem-solving, assertiveness, self-esteem, and relaxation techniques. Therapeutic group and individual therapy sessions are provided. The unit utilizes Omnicell, Epic, and SBAR modified for documentation and communication. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, and pharmacy. References are required. A drug screen is required to be obtained within 14 days of the start date.
