Mechanical & Architectural Estimators

South Side of Indianapolis
$86,000–$90,000 Depending on Experience
1st Shift | Monday–Friday | Full-Time

First Call Direct Hire is recruiting for our client on the south side of Indianapolis for experienced Mechanical and Architectural Estimators to join their metal fabrication team.

These positions are responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and project timelines based on mechanical or architectural drawings.

The roles include a mix of shop-based estimating, occasional site visits, and collaboration with customers and internal teams.

Projects span manufacturing, industrial, construction, and architectural markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Review mechanical or architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and requirements

• Prepare detailed material and labor cost estimates using fabrication processes such as laser cutting, waterjet, press brake, CNC machining, and welding

• Source and price vendor items and non-metal materials such as lighting, wood, plastics, and equipment

• Compile and maintain complete bid documentation and supplier pricing data

• Identify cost drivers and factors affecting project estimates

• Communicate with customers, contractors, owners, and project stakeholders to clarify scope

• Collaborate with shop personnel to improve fabrication methods and estimating efficiency

• Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and workflows

• Conduct occasional site visits for field measurements and project coordination

Mechanical Estimator

The Mechanical Estimator should bring hands-on machining or shop experience along with the ability to independently read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.

Preferred Background:

• Hands-on machining or shop experience

• Strong mechanical aptitude

• Ability to independently read and interpret mechanical drawings

• Understanding of machining and fabrication processes

• CAD or 3D modeling experience is a plus

Architectural Estimator

The Architectural Estimator should bring construction or field experience along with the ability to independently read and interpret architectural drawings and prints.

Preferred Background:

• Hands-on construction or field experience

• Ability to independently read and interpret architectural drawings and prints

• Understanding of commercial construction processes

• Experience with material takeoffs and estimating

• CAD or 3D modeling experience is a plus

• Ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, project teams, and shop personnel
