2027 Future Talent Program - Discovery Oncology - Co-op (South San Francisco, CA)

Merck's Discovery Oncology team seeks a motivated student for a 6-month co-op beginning in early-to-mid 2027. The role involves designing and executing biochemical and cell-based assays to characterize cancer drug targets, working under scientific mentorship in South San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, interpret, and report results from in vitro experiments
- Develop, execute, and troubleshoot new cell-based assays for therapeutic characterization
- Communicate research data clearly to teams and stakeholders
- Review and critically interpret published literature to inform research direction
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including medicinal chemistry and pharmacology
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in BS/BA in biological sciences or related discipline
- Available for full-time work for up to 6 consecutive months starting early-to-mid 2027
- Enrolled in college or university co-op program
- Experience with basic lab procedures: pipetting, solution preparation, plate assays
- Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate data analysis
- Experience with bioinformatics data analysis and biological database interpretation
