Certified Surgical Technologist

Job Summary Responsible for delivering safe and effective patient care during the intra-operative period. Assists the surgical team under the supervision of the registered nurse. Ensures adherence to surgical department standards and protocols. Interacts effectively with patients and healthcare team members. Maintains a sterile and organized surgical environment. Essential Functions Assists RN with patient admission and provides input on patient condition. Notifies RN or physician of critical findings or changes following admission. Assists with documentation on the perioperative record. Retrieves supplies and equipment as directed by the RN. Scrubs on surgical procedures and assists the surgical team by passing instruments, holding retractors, and suctioning. Maintains strict aseptic technique and reports or corrects any breaks in technique. Manages and secures medications in the sterile field according to policy. Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy. Maintains patient safety, dignity, and advocates for safe delivery of care. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Requirement High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area. Experience Requirement 0–2 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted. Certifications & Licensures Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery - Certified (Surgery TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing, Basic Life Support (BLS).
