Laboratory Examiner Are you interested in enhancing the health of your community? The Bureau of Laboratories, Division of Laboratory Improvement, is seeking an individual for a role that aligns with its mission to license and regulate clinical laboratories across the Commonwealth. As a Laboratory Examiner, you will have the opportunity to conduct on-site inspections and other activities to ensure that laboratories comply with relevant state regulations and federal standards. If you have experience with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), this position may be a great fit for you! In this role, you will be expected to frequently travel throughout the Commonwealth to conduct on-site inspections of clinical laboratories, performing on-site evaluations of all areas of the clinical laboratory. Work involves reviewing records of the complexity of testing, laboratory personnel qualifications, instrumentation, quality assurance, laboratory management practices, and other factors. Your work focuses on ensuring compliance with the State's Clinical Laboratory Act, the Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA '88), as well as Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Blood Bank Regulations. Work Schedule and Additional Information Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework is based on operational needs. This position requires frequent travel throughout the Commonwealth to conduct on-site inspections of clinical laboratories. You may work from home (telework part-time) when performing pre- and post-inspection duties after completing a one-year training period. To telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you cannot telework, you may report to the headquarters office in Exton. Salary may be non-negotiable. Responsibilities Conduct on-site inspections and evaluate all areas of the clinical laboratory. Review records of testing complexity, personnel qualifications, instrumentation, quality assurance, laboratory management practices, and related factors. Ensure compliance with the State's Clinical Laboratory Act, CLIA '88, and FDA Blood Bank Regulations. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements Two years of professional laboratory work experience examining and performing testing on human specimens in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory, and a bachelor's degree in chemical science, biological science, or medical technology; or One year of professional laboratory work experience examining and performing testing on human specimens in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory, and a master's degree in chemical science, biological science, or medical technology. Special Requirements This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license. Other Requirements You must meet the PA residency requirement.
