Managing Director for Before/After School Programming Position Type: Administration Date Posted: 4/23/2026 Location: District-Wide ALL Locations Position Summary The Before/Afterschool Managing Director leads and manages Medford's multi-site out-of-school-time (OST) program. This position is responsible for program vision and strategy; staff leadership and professional development; operational, regulatory, and safety standards; communications and community partnerships; and financial stewardship to deliver high-quality, safe, and inclusive programming that supports student learning and family needs. Key Responsibilities Program Oversight, Supervision, and Evaluation — 50% Provide strategic leadership and inspire a clear, student-centered vision for Medford's before/afterschool programming. Lead the staffing strategy and operational leadership for program teams; Site Directors are responsible for day-to-day management of program staff (scheduling, supervision, daily performance, and on-site operations). The Managing Director delegates these daily management responsibilities to Site Directors while providing oversight, coaching, performance evaluation, and corrective action as needed. Managing and overseeing partnerships, including but not limited to City Year core members. Design and implement onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development for all program staff. Regularly observe program sites and participate in activities to assess quality and align practice with district learning goals and EEC licensing standards. Establish and maintain centralized, secure program records and reporting systems (attendance, enrollment, incident reports, staff files, program metrics). Track and analyze program data (children served, family engagement, program popularity, outcomes) to inform continuous improvement and resource allocation. Oversee daily operational elements including scheduling, licensing compliance, paperwork processing, and emergency readiness. Set expectations, model practice, drive cross-site consistency, and take executive action as necessary and appropriate to meet district goals. Strategic Program Development and Administration —20% Lead the development and implementation of age-appropriate curricula and enrichment aligned to MPS learning objectives and core values. Create and maintain standard operating procedures and safety protocols that meet or exceed EEC and district standards; perform periodic audits and remediate gaps. Pilot and scale new program ideas and significant expansions to enrollment, as needed; provide feasibility analysis and recommend programmatic changes based on data and community needs. Communications and Outreach —15% Develop and execute a transparent communications strategy with school leadership, families, staff, city partners, and community stakeholders. Serve as the primary district liaison for principals, teachers, community organizations, and municipal officials regarding OST programming. Represent the program at community events and public forums; promote registration, partnerships, and program visibility across media and outreach channels. Foster relationships with peer programs and professional associations to identify and adopt best practices. Prepare and manage the program budget in collaboration with the Superintendent and Finance Director; monitor cash flow, forecasts, and financial performance. Recommend budget priorities, including setting tuition; identify funding opportunities; and develop contingency plans to maintain program stability and growth. Ensure transparent fiscal practices and accurate financial reporting to district leadership and stakeholders. Other Responsibilities as needed – approximately 5% Oversee first aid, incident response, and documentation procedures. Responsibility and oversight over emergency planning and contingencies. Maintain professional knowledge through relevant trainings and industry developments. Perform other duties as assigned to support program success and district goals. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Education, Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field. Significant leadership/management experience directing multi-site programs or large teams. Strong knowledge of child development, youth programming, and OST best practices. Experience with staff training and supervision, program evaluation, and data-driven decision making. Familiarity with EEC (102 CMR 7.00) licensing standards or similar regulatory frameworks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage diverse families and community partners. Preferred Master's degree in Education, School or Nonprofit Leadership, Business Administration, Youth Development, or related field Demonstrated OST/K–12 experience, licensing familiarity (EEC), and fiscal management in the public sector State School Administrator/Principal license (e.g., MA DESE Principal or School Leader license or similar) Working Conditions Position based in district offices with frequent on-site presence at program locations. Supervisor is the Superintendent of Schools, MPS Compensation Work year is 260 days with flexible full-time hours for the supervision of programming districtwide. Competitive salary commensurate with experience, with a pay range of $100,000 - $120,000 annually. Full benefits package provided per district policy.
