About the Position

Summary: The ICU Registered Nurse delivers specialized, high-level care to patients in the intensive care unit. This role involves continuous assessment and monitoring of critically ill patients, management of life-sustaining equipment, administration of advanced therapies, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The position demands strong clinical expertise, sound judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to maintaining patient safety and ethical standards in a high-acuity environment. Key Responsibilities: Evaluate and closely monitor critically ill patients, identifying and responding promptly to changes in condition Administer complex medications and therapies in accordance with established critical care practices Operate and oversee advanced life-support and monitoring equipment Promote patient safety and comfort in the ICU by addressing both physical and emotional needs Document patient status, responses, and interventions, and communicate significant changes to the appropriate provider Perform and interpret advanced hemodynamic monitoring, including arterial lines, central venous pressure (CVP), and pulmonary artery catheters Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments and interventions to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance Educate patients and families about ICU care, procedures, and recovery expectations Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes Maintain competency in critical care procedures and technologies through ongoing education Follow strict infection prevention protocols to reduce risk and protect vulnerable patients Participate in quality improvement efforts to enhance patient outcomes and unit performance Complete additional responsibilities within scope of practice as assigned Comply with all safety standards, infection control policies, and regulatory requirements Required Skills and Qualifications: Strong critical thinking abilities, commitment to service excellence, and effective communication skills Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English Ability to interpret written materials, follow verbal instructions, and use computer systems effectively Physical capability to remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the unit, and lift or maneuver equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bending Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude Fine motor skills and coordination required for performing procedures and operating equipment Ability to manage frequent patient and family interactions while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment Capability to work independently or with minimal supervision when needed Flexibility to handle variable schedules and maintain close attention to detail Adequate visual acuity and communication ability to perform duties safely and effectively
