Assistant Counselor Department of Counseling and Student Development Central Connecticut State University invites applications to join the Department of Counseling and Student Development as a full-time, 10-month, Assistant Counselor. We seek applicants who will provide students with mental/behavioral health services as part of the integrated Student Wellness Center. About Central’s Department of Counseling and Student Development Central’s Department of Counseling and Student Development provides mental health counseling and a wide range of student development services designed to support academic success, as well as help students resolve emotional, inter-personal, behavioral, and other personal challenges. In addition, we offer services and programs intended to promote mental health, while helping students acquire the skills and resources needed to thrive in a university setting. Position Profile The Assistant Counselor provides students with mental/behavioral health services which includes, but is not limited to, individual, group, family, and couples counseling, as well as crisis intervention, risk assessment, case management, and campus/community outreach services. The Assistant Counselor also assists with the student orientation programs and other university events, as well as represents the department on campus and community-based task forces. Additionally, the counselor provides consultation, workshops and trainings to others on campus, and maintains positive relationships with referral sources and community providers in the greater New Britain region and beyond. Applicant Evaluative Criteria Applicant profiles and supplementary materials will be evaluated for appointment based on the following: Education and Licensing: Doctorate or master’s degree from an accredited institution in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or other mental health related fields. State of Connecticut licensure in Psychology (Psy.D., Ph.D., Ed.D.), Professional Counseling (LPC), Social Work (LCSW), or Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT). Experience and Training: Minimum three years experience working with high-risk adolescents and/or young adults, as well as with complex and/or long-standing mental health challenges Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students Electronic health record experience Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) Ideal Candidate: Preference will be given to applicants with the following: Three years post master’s counseling experience at a college/university counseling center and/or agency/private practice serving college age adolescents/adults Experience working with graduate student interns and assistants To Apply To begin the application process, select the “Apply” button and electronically submit the following documents by August 4, 2026.
