Temporary Aquatic Camp Counselor Lead Recreation Leader III City of Alexandria, Northern Virginia. Recreation Leader III: Aquatic Camp Counselor Lead Overview Performs technical recreation work. Reconstruction leaders assist, plan, lead, instruct and guide youth 4-11 years old in arts and crafts, sports, games, swimming, and outdoor activities. Camp counselors work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., during the summer (May–August). Essential skills include enthusiasm, flexibility, excellent customer service, communication, and organization. The Opportunity Plan, implement, and facilitate recreation aquatic-based activities, programs, and arts and crafts to provide a variety of activities during summer camp. Ensure pool rules are implemented and followed. Create weekly and daily camp schedules. Follow Recreation Services Workplace Expectations. Ensure all safety precautions and guidelines are followed for all programs and activities. Ensure program participants are properly supervised at all times. Create a positive, nurturing, inclusive and safe program environment. Prepare for recreational activities at one or more sites on a particular date: open site, set up equipment and program materials, ensure rules and regulations are followed, maintain order, store equipment and materials after activities and secure the site. Complete reports, documentation, and other paperwork as assigned in compliance with the Department's policies and procedures. Communicate professionally (written and verbally) with customers. Participate in staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and workshops. Perform related work as required. About You You are service‑minded, dependable, and take pride in your work. Qualifications High School Diploma and three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
