Capital One's Card Data Management (CDM) team is seeking a Principal Data Analyst with strong problem-solving and conceptual thinking abilities, paired with solid communication and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will be a part of a team of talented analysts driving our AI automation strategy for Card Data. By championing LLM tools like Gemini and Claude, you will help automate complex data validation processes and establish proactive metrics to eliminate operational fire drills. Through this impactful work and a strong focus on work-life balance, we've created a dynamic environment with plenty of room for you to learn, grow, and realize your full potential.On any given day you will be challenged on three types of work – Innovation, Business Intelligence and Data Management:InnovationUse Open Source/Digital technologies to mine complex, voluminous, and different varieties of data sources and platformsBuild well-managed data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self-service frameworks for data consumersDemonstrate ability to explore and quickly grasp new technologies to progress varied initiativesBusiness IntelligencePartner with the business to provide consultancy and translate the business needs to design and develop tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualizationDrive analysis that provides meaningful insights on business strategiesData ManagementDrive an understanding and adherence to the principles of data quality management including metadata, lineage, and business definitionsWork collaboratively with appropriate Tech teams to manage security mechanisms and data access governanceBuild and execute tools to monitor and report on data qualityOur ideal candidate will have:Degree specialized in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics disciplineScripting experience in (Python, R, Spark, and SQL)Strong desire and experience with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data)Experience utilizing and developing within AWS servicesBasic Qualifications:Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field) plus at least 5 years of experience performing data analytics, or, a Master's Degree plus at least 3 years performing data analytics with an expectation that required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date.At least 3 years of experience working with at least one scripting languageAt least 3 years of experience utilizing a business intelligence visualization toolAt least 3 years of experience in querying, analyzing and working with data languages and platformsPreferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics disciplineProven experience in developing data strategies that incorporate LLM technologies, such as Gemini and ClaudAt least 4 years of experience coding in Python, R, Spark, or SQLAt least 4 years of experience working within process management and improvement methodologies – Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.At least 2 years of experience utilizing and developing within AWS servicesAt least 2 years of experience delivering Data Governance and Data Quality Management concepts and practices within the financial services industryCapital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position.This role is Hybrid, with associates expected to consistently spend three days per week in the office.The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.McLean, VA: $131,300 - $149,800 for Principal Data AnalystRichmond, VA: $119,400 - $136,200 for Principal Data AnalystCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
