Working under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Scientist or Laboratory director, the MLT ensures accurate, timely, and reliable test results while maintaining compliance with CLIA and hospital quality standards. ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and moderate complexity testing in various laboratory disciplines such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and transfusion services. Complete appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens including blood, stool, sputum, and throat cultures. Run daily quality control, evaluate results, document corrective actions, and participate in proficiency testing. Operate, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory analyzers and equipment. Receive, label, prepare, and process specimens while ensuring proper handling, storage, and routing. Interpret physician orders and secure requisitions before performing tests. Review results for accuracy, identify abnormal or critical values, and follow protocols for provider notification. Maintain accurate records, follow standard operating procedures, and adhere to CLIA, COLA, and hospital safety standards. Perform venipuncture and capillary collections as assigned, providing compassionate patient care. Work closely with MLS/MT staff, nursing, and providers to support efficient workflow and timely turnaround. Monitor reagent and supply levels; assist with ordering and stocking. Identify workflow issues and contribute to quality and efficiency initiatives. Answer calls and queries from doctors and hospital staff. Collect drug screens and perform Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) with associated chain of custody. Conduct paternity tests and complete associated chain of custody. Perform EKGs as needed. Required Experience / Certifications / LicensureAssociate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field is required. Prior clinical laboratory experience is preferred to work independently on a solo shift. National registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician is required, with a preference for three years of laboratory experience. Continuing education on a regular basis is necessary. BLS certification and training are required. Schedule This position involves days, with a 10-hour per day schedule, amounting to 40 hours per week.
