Accountant

Overview This position serves as a key financial resource for a department or college, providing comprehensive accounting support to ensure accuracy, compliance, and effective financial management. The role encompasses account reconciliation, financial reporting, budget support, data maintenance, and payroll coordination, contributing to the overall integrity of departmental operations. Responsibilities Reconcile accounts by reviewing financial transactions and ensuring alignment between system reports and source documentation (accounts payable, deposits, interdepartmental activity). Prepare and deliver detailed financial statements that reflect monthly activity, including section-level and consolidated reports; identify and communicate discrepancies for resolution and appropriate approval. Monitor departmental accounts and spending activity; process budget and cost transfers; prepare requisitions and invoices within PeopleSoft. Support daily financial operations by managing deposits and maintaining accurate records of transactions, contracts, and agreements. Collaborate with departments, principal investigators, and vendors to provide guidance on financial matters, ensuring appropriate use of funds and adherence to policies and contractual obligations. Conduct financial analyses to support reporting needs, improve processes, and inform decision-making; participate in the annual budget preparation process. Maintain accuracy and quality of financial data through regular review and investigation of discrepancies; serve as payroll coordinator or backup to ensure timely payroll processing. Support the department’s financial health and operational success through strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Qualifications Bachelor's of Science or Bachelor's of Arts Degree and a minimum of 18 hours of accounting coursework. No additional certifications or licenses required. Benefits and Logistics Pay Range: Targeted salary of $50,300, depending on education and experience.
