Job Title Bakery Cake Designer Department Bakery Employment Classification FLSA: Non‑Exempt General Function Responsible for decorating bakery items. Assist customers with their bakery orders by telephone and in person at the store. Provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members, ensuring a positive company image. Reports to no positions. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service with caring, concern, and patience, treating customers as the most important people in the store. Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner throughout the store. Learn and use customers’ names whenever possible. Assist customers by: Escorting them to the products they’re looking for Securing products that are out of reach Loading or unloading heavy items Performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience. Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service, including taking product orders. Take customer orders at the bakery counter. Work with coworkers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. Check orders for the day and set up a timeline and production schedule. Decorate bakery items in a timely manner. Stay current on new designs and trends. Ensure department standards are met. Check cake orders for details (size, deco pack, icing needs, dates) daily and indicate supply needs. Order supplies for the decorating area and confirm accuracy. Deliver products and set up wedding cakes on site (outside the store). Communicate with the bakery manager regarding displays, weekly ads, and special needs daily. Check product dates, pull cases for work, and list items to fill or replace. Develop bakery orders for bakers daily (order cakes, sizes, etc.). Track daily retail production and identify tasks to be completed with coworkers. Operate as a lead worker with part‑time or other employees, instructing and reviewing work. Participate in employee cross‑training. Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat. Adhere to company policies and store guidelines. Report to work on schedule and on time. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Wrap all product as necessary. Assist in other areas of the store as needed. Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. Proficiency in filing, posting, and mailing materials; copying data from one record to another; interviewing for basic information; guiding people and providing basic direction. Education and Experience High school or equivalent experience and up to six months of similar or related work experience. Physical Requirements Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force (shared team lifting) occasionally; up to 50 pounds of force frequently; up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision. Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions Work is normally conducted in a store environment with significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Exposure to flour dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, residual fumes, and temperature extremes. Equipment Used to Perform Job Standard bakery tools including mixers, ovens, turntables, tips, bas, airbrush, telephone, cake machine, and intercom system. Contacts Daily contact with the general public for orders and weekly contact with suppliers/vendors. Salary Hourly starting wage ranges from $17.00 to $21.25 depending on experience.
