Staff Research Data Scientist, Search Ads, Ads Metrics

This Staff Research Data Scientist role supports Google Search Ads within the Ads Metrics Data Science team. The team measures and informs product development through experiments and deep analysis, turning business questions into rigorous evaluation and modeling.
Role Overview
In this position, you will collaborate with stakeholders across projects and teams to frame measurable questions, develop analysis plans, and guide product insights. You will also work with data infrastructure and modeling approaches to express and solve defined problems even when precedents are limited.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders across projects and in team settings to identify and clarify business or product questions. Translate and refine these questions into tractable analyses, evaluation metrics, or mathematical models, and provide feedback throughout the process.
- Apply specialized knowledge to use custom data infrastructure or existing data models as appropriate. Design and evaluate mathematical models that solve defined problems with limited precedent.
- Collect information on business goals, priorities, organizational context, and the current and upcoming data infrastructure related to the questions being addressed.
- Own the end-to-end workflow for gathering, extracting, and compiling data from multiple sources using tools such as SQL , R , and Python . Format, re-structure, and/or validate data to ensure quality, and review the dataset to confirm readiness for analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, including coding (for example, Python, R, SQL), querying databases, or performing statistical analysis. Alternatively, 6 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, including coding (for example, Python, R, SQL), querying databases, or performing statistical analysis. Alternatively, 8 years of work experience with a PhD degree.
