Major Responsibility

Serve as a client advocate providing client information and peer support.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients in identifying personal goals for recovery
• Assist clients in working with the treatment team in determining the steps to take in order to achieve their goals
• Utilize and teach problem solving skills
• Share personal experience to communicate what skills, strength, and supports and resources they use.
• Teach and role model the value of every client's recovery experience
• Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies
• Educate clients about community and natural supports and how to use these in the recovery process
• Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy
• Participate in the collaborative treatment planning process
• Participate in weekly team meetings
• Receive weekly supervision by the Clinical Director
• Complete staff development activities

Knowledge

• Knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established mental health processes.
• Knowledge of signs and symptoms of mental illness and the ability to assist the client to address symptoms.

Skills

• Good written and verbal communication skills. Be comfortable working with others as a part of a team.
• Ability to work with individuals between 16 and 34 years of age.
• Some computer skills necessary. Expected to handle routine duties independently and establish common priorities for their assignments.

Education

• High School Diploma
• Lived experience
• BA in Human Services (Preferred)
• Peer Specialist Certification (Preferred)
