Unit Clerk Monitor Technician

The Unit Clerk/Monitor Tech performs clerical and receptionist duties on assigned unit. This individual is responsible for recognition and posting of monitor rhythms, and is responsible for operation and daily maintenance of monitor equipment.

Responsibilities include:

• Entering physician orders into the computer accurately and efficiently
• Ensuring orders are being entered using correct patient name, medical record number and visit number
• Establishing priority of unit needs
• Being aware of role in all emergency situations
• Assembling and maintaining patient's chart; ensuring all paperwork in chart has correct patient label
• Ordering unit supplies and chart forms
• Greeting patient, visitor, physician and other hospital personnel in a courteous, friendly manner
• Ensuring that all patients are being monitored while on the unit
• Ensuring that all alarms are active
• Responding to all monitor alarms and notifying RN, Charge RN, Coordinator or Manager as necessary
• Obtaining a sample of the alarm rhythm and placing in appropriate section of the chart
• Notifying RN immediately of any change in patient cardiac rhythm
• Printing a readable sample of the patient's rhythm per the unit policy and placing in the appropriate section of the chart
• Admitting, discharging and transferring patients on the monitoring equipment appropriately
• Collaborating with Biomedical Department regarding proper maintenance and functioning of equipment
• Cleaning and storing telemetry equipment when not in use

Additionally, the role requires presenting a positive attitude and demeanor, using effective and appropriate communication skills, working harmoniously with other licensed and non-licensed staff, assisting with orientation of new unit clerks, and demonstrating professional development and accountability.
