Assistant Cook

Under supervision, perform varied semi-skilled tasks in food preparation and services, including salad and sandwich preparation. Assist head cook. Prepare and serve a` la carte lunches. Package take-out lunches. Load and unload transporters. Assist in stocking serving areas. Serve food along lunch line. Cashier on lunch line. Assist with clean-up of dishes, cooking utensils, equipment, lunchroom, and kitchen. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Employee expected to use non-hazardous chemical products. Must have an understanding of cooking techniques. Possess a working knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment. Basic math skills and experience with cash registers is preferred. Have the ability to adjust recipes to different quantities. Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, reach, and stretch as needed. Three years of food service experience or experience that includes increasingly responsible involvement in the management of a large-scale food service operation. Be willing to become Serve Safe certified. Knowledge of Skyward Point of Sales system and end of day money procedures and reports preferred. Valid State of Washington Food and Beverage Service Workers' Permit. Effective working personality and ability to work with students. Working knowledge of State and Federal Child Nutrition Guidelines.

Physical Demands for this position may include: standing for extended periods of time. Lifting heavy objects. Performing repetitive tasks. Must have the ability to bend, stoop, and reach. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a kitchen environment within a school setting. May be exposed to heat, steam, and odors from cooking. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The employee has responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of others and must be able to interact with other workers.
