Teacher (Specialist) / TOSA: Dean of Students

This hybrid position serves students and staff in two capacities: Teaching a designated "special" class (e.g., PE, STEM, art, intervention, etc.) and serving as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) supporting student behavior, school culture, and daily operations in a Dean of Students role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging instruction in assigned special area
• Develop lesson plans aligned to Arizona Academic Standards
• Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
• Maintain a positive and structured classroom environment
• Communicate regularly with teachers and families regarding student progress
• Support school-wide behavior systems implementation
• Assist with student discipline, investigations, and documentation
• Provide supervision during high-need times (recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal)
• Build relationships with students to promote positive behavior and school culture
• Collaborate with administration on behavior interventions and support plans
• Assist in crisis response and student safety procedures
• Support attendance initiatives and family communication
• Help coordinate student recognition programs and incentives

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
• Ability to build relationships with students and families
• Knowledge of PBIS, restorative practices, or similar systems preferred
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations professionally
• Leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Arizona teaching certificate
• Fingerprint clearance card
• Experience working with elementary or middle school students preferred
• Administrative Certification (or enrollment in a program)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in behavior support
• Prior leadership or mentoring experience
• Experience handling student discipline or restorative practices
