Production Supervisor

Our client, an automotive company, is looking for a Production Supervisor for their Sterling Heights, MI location.

Responsibilities:

The Production Supervisor will be responsible for managing small work teams in a fast-paced, high-volume, unionized manufacturing environment. The Production Supervisor is responsible for ensuring team safety; building teams and training/allocating manpower; driving and implementing continuous improvement solutions to improve product quality and reach throughput and cost targets; and ensuring team morale.

The selected candidate's responsibilities will include but are not limited to coordinating all activities to achieve business metrics and implementing client Production Way (SPW) processes and initiatives including the following:

• Ensure the production plan is met, analyzes issues with other roles, drives and implements continuous improvement activities and sustainability of solutions inside the Zone. A Zone may consist of multiple production lines and up to approximately 30 employees, requiring ownership of all safety, quality, and throughput objectives within that area.
• Ensure a safe workplace, leads the Team to improve Safety in the area and enforces the use of mandated Safety tools and procedures. Safety is a critical focus area within the body shop environment.
• Understand losses during the Shift, use the client Industrial Systems tools and methodology to improve Zone performances. Demonstrate an understanding of manufacturing process flow, bottlenecks, alarms, fault conditions, and escalation procedures to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
• Proactively analyze quality KPIs related to the Zone, prioritizes quality issues and properly guides Team Leaders. Understanding basic welding principles, including identifying good versus bad welds, is highly beneficial.
• Ensure the right allocation of the people on the line, manages absenteeism, trains and builds teams.

Requirements:

Possess knowledge of the broader manufacturing organization and have the ability to mobilize support groups and resources to lead and assist in problemsolving activities. Candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and an understanding of manufacturing equipment, conveyors, automation systems, and maintenance concepts will be highly valued.

Actively participate and lead kaizen project activities centered on Safety, Cost, Quality, and Throughput improvements and waste reduction opportunities identified through cost deployment.

Drive a sense of urgency within the operation and proactively respond to production interruptions to ensure output targets are achieved. Successful candidates will demonstrate accountability, curiosity, and a customerfirst mindset when resolving issues impacting downstream operations.

High school diploma or GED

Excellent organization, written and oral communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with various levels of employees within all areas of the Plant from hourly represented employees to Senior Leadership as required

Ability to build effective business relationships with plant leadership and customers

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Goaloriented selfstarter with ability to lead teams

Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Ability to work in a highvolume, fastpaced manufacturing environment while maintaining a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness to production needs

Ability to spend extended periods on the production floor, including walking throughout the facility and climbing stairs as required

Bachelor's degree in a technical field

2 or more years' experience in supervision in a highvolume environment

Experience in welding (resistance spot welding) and robotic applications

Experience with robotics controls, automation systems, conveyors, or related manufacturing technologies

Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/develop team members

Previous experience working in a union environment

Experience in continuous improvement systems and lean manufacturing

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Suite software programs

Experience in automotive manufacturing, body shop operations, or stamping environments preferred

Understanding of manufacturing process flow, bottleneck management, downtime reduction, and production recovery activities

Candidates with maintenancerelated experience, mechanical aptitude, or exposure to highly automated manufacturing operations are strongly encouraged to apply

Manufacturing/union experience strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable working in a unionized environment and understand the challenges and dynamics associated with supporting represented employees.

Robotics controls, automation, welding (resistance spot welding), and stamping experience preferred. Experience supervising within a highly automated manufacturing environment is highly desired.

A hands-on production leader with manufacturing supervision experience, union exposure, strong safety focus, mechanical aptitude, and a demonstrated ability to drive urgency, troubleshoot process interruptions, and lead teams in a high-volume automotive or industrial manufacturing environment.

Experience in welding, robotics, automation, maintenance-related operations, or stamping will significantly strengthen a candidate's fit for this role.

The hiring manager is open to candidates with approximately 0-3 years of supervisory experience, though more experienced candidates will also be considered.

Candidates coming from Tier 1, Tier 2, automotive, body shop, welding, robotics, automation, maintenance, or stamping environments are all of interest.

Union experience is strongly preferred because there can be a significant learning curve for leaders coming from non-union environments.

The manager is looking for individuals who naturally demonstrate urgency, ownership, continuous improvement, customer focus, and proactive problem-solving skills.

Candidates with a maintenance mindset who understand how manufacturing equipment, automation, and production systems operate will stand out among applicants.
